The resolution of an image is determined by the concentration of dots or pixels which it consists of - this value is generally referred to as an images’ dpi (dots per inch). Higher resolution images are crisper and clearer, therefore they have a higher dpi.

If you require images to use on your website, a low resolution is generally sufficient to achieve a good quality picture. However, if they are required for a brochure then you would usually need a higher resolution.
